Knights of Columbus
Brainerd Council 1491
What Are the Knights of Columbus?
The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic, family, fraternal benefit society founded in 1882 by Venerable Michael McGivney, an American priest whose cause for sainthood is being considered by the Catholic Church.
We are an organization like no other - nearly 2 million members throughout the world united in service to our Catholic Church, our communities, parishes, schools, neighborhoods and the many in need, on your street or across the world.
It is through six key areas of service - faith, community, family, youth, fellowship and respect for life - that the Knights of Columbus truly makes a difference. Our faith is our foundation. Dedicated to the Catholic Church's growth and her good works, we support religious outreach and promote vocations in an effort to strengthen the faith that unites us.
Today we are looking for the next generation of Knights. Men of character and conviction who are driven by both faith and conscience to do truly meaningful works. And the rewards for members are numerous, from scholarships for our sons and daughters, to being able to participate in one of the leading insurance programs in the country.
But of the countless rewards Knighthood offers, perhaps the most inviting is this: The knowledge that, as a Knight, you can make a difference. Through fearless service. Through heartfelt perseverance. And, above all, through unfaltering fellowship.
What are some things the Knights of Columbus are involved in?
Tootsie Roll Drive with monies collected going toward programs for the mentally challenged
Pennies for Seminarians donations for the Diocesan seminarian program
Breakfasts to help raise money for St. Francis of the Lakes Catholic School events/projects
Many, many hours of volunteer time for the Catholic Church and it's faith formation programs and Church maintenance projects
Summer Brat sales to help raise funds for local charities
