Fr. Paul Strommer
I am Fr. Paul. Friday June 3, 2016, the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, was the day that I was ordained a priest. I lived in White Bear Lake until the end of the summer of 2005. Both my parents (Michael and Ann) are from St. Paul. They both graduated from St. Bernard’s High School. I have two siblings; my sister, Christina (32) and brother Jeffrey (23). Our family belongs to the Parish of St. Mary of the Lake. My siblings and I graduated from the parish elementary school. From there we went to the White Bear Lake Area Public Schools.
My sister and brother choose to attend college in Wisconsin, I choose the better part, by attending college in Minnesota. The University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) was the only school to which I applied. I declared Teaching Mathematics as my major (a vocation to the priesthood was nowhere on the radar…)
My entire sophomore year of college was spent in England studying abroad. It was during this time that God became more central in my life. When I returned back home I began to reside in Duluth full-time. While pursuing and completing a degree Teaching Mathematics became less and less appealing, my plan to remain in Duluth and the surrounding region became more and more certain. It was at this time that God brought me on the path to becoming a priest of the Diocese of Duluth.
The Newman Catholic Campus Ministry, daily Mass, Confession, and becoming part of a Men’s Catholic Bible study were all ways in which God led me on the path towards discerning His call to the priesthood.
Please know how eager I am to begin my first days, months, and years as a priest in Brainerd serving you along with Fr. Tony. Please pray for me and for all priests!
