I am the new deacon, Jerry Lachiewicz (Polish descent). My wife, Kim, and I are new to the area having retired here in September after living in Colorado Springs for 37 years.

Kim and I have been married for 43 years, have 5 adult children and numerous grandchildren. I am an Army veteran, former air traffic controller with the FAA, an alumnus of Marquette University and a retired electrical engineer with my experience split between defense and commercial work.

I began my graduate study of Sacred Theology in 1999 at Holy Apostles College and went through diaconal formation via the Augustine Institute in 2005. I was ordained a deacon in 2011 and love serving the family of God through bereavement ministry, adult education and sacramental prep. I previously served at two parishes in Colorado Springs including the last 8 years at St. Francis parish which is located in the northwest part of the city, just south of the Air Force Academy.

I love sports and played just about anything until I discovered running around age 40. Since then I’ve completed dozens of marathons and ultramarathons and ran until my knees gave out when I turned 60. Being somewhat OCD, that’s when my interest turned fully to my lifelong love of fishing and fishing is what brought us here (Kim likes to fish too). We do not have any family here - our kids are spread throughout the US - so you guys are our family.

I have the habit of joking about anything except maybe fishing and faith, but I’m not even sure about one of those. J (I figure you all are going to get to know me eventually so I may as well be honest to start things off.)
Seriously, Kim and I were so very happy to discover what an active, dynamic and growing Catholic community is here. The glory of our faith shines and flows down from Bp. Felton to our holy priests in each parish and is reflected in the lives of those I’ve met. Our God is so good and, based on what I’ve seen, He is doing great things in the Brainerd-Baxter area.

May God bless each person of our new Catholic family abundantly and thank you for the warm welcome! I’m here for you!
