Fr. Matthew Miller
I am your new associate pastor, Fr. Matthew Miller. Many of you may remember me from a couple of years ago, as I spent a summer here as a seminarian. I was edified then by the fidelity of those whom I served; as such, I am really looking forward to my assignment here with you all.
I grew up in Hinckley, Minnesota, and I graduated from High School there in 2012. After that, I studied one year at the College of St. Scholastica. During that year, I discovered that I could not find a way to be fulfilled completely in what I was studying. It was clear that I needed to tour seminary, as this had been on my mind for a few years, and see if the Lord had that in store. When I encountered the seminary on a visit, the Lord drew my heart to recognize that I needed to enter. Thus, I entered seminary in the Fall of 2013.
I studied for 3 years at St. John Vianney Seminary at the University of St. Thomas. After I graduated from there in 2016, I was sent to study at the Pontifical North American College in Rome. I completed my studies there in 2020. I am deeply grateful to God for my time in seminary. The Lord used this time to foster a life of intimate prayer. I also was grateful for the friendships, the academic rigor, and the pastoral opportunities that seminary afforded.
I was then assigned to be the associate pastor at the parishes of the Cathedral and St. Mary Star of the Sea in the summer of 2020. I served there this past year, and have been overjoyed to be a priest. Celebrating the Mass and administering God’s forgiveness in the Sacrament of Confession have proven two of the greatest gifts God has given me. I loved my time in Duluth and was sad to leave there, yet what eased my sadness was the knowledge that I was going to a place where the vitality of the faith is also alive. Thus, I rejoice at my opportunity to serve you. Please know of my prayers for you all, and may God bless you!
